Professional Sociologists are creative and critical thinkers who are highly valued for their research skills. A sociologist is able to develop creative research projects that are used to solve social and organisational problems.

As a Sociology student you will develop an understanding of social and cultural issues and apply your advanced communication and research skills to address them. You will develop these skills through unique research projects and real world case studies.

You may also choose to complete a double degree, awarding you two qualifications in only four years of full time study:


Bachelor of Social Science (Sociology)
Campus Lilydale
Course Duration Three years full time or equivalent part time, plus optional Industry-Based Learning (IBL) 6 or 12 month placement. Not available to international students.
Lilydale ATAR Bonus

We'll provide a 5 point ATAR bonus to VCE applicants who choose to study at the Lilydale campus.

To be eligible you need to successfully complete year 12 at a nominated secondary school and apply for a degree program delivered on the Lilydale campus.

Students may study co-majors and minors not offered by the Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale through another Swinburne Faculty, subject to program prescription and timetabling availability.
