Role description - Program Coordinator

A Program Coordinator is directly responsible for the co-ordination of a particular teaching program (which may be a nested suite of courses) and works together with a Program Panel of key teaching staff. The Dean either appoints Program Coordinators or delegates this responsibility to the Deputy Dean, in either case in consultation with the Head of Academic Group (HoAG), and assignment of Program Coordinator roles is subject to regular review.

Program Coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Advising the HoAG on issues related to the program concerned;
  • Coordinating advice to the Faculty Academic Committee in relation to credit transfer agreements with other institutions in consultation with Discipline Leaders;
  • Coordinating responses regarding exemptions and credit transfer arrangements and requests, both national and international, in consultation with Discipline Leaders;
  • In collaboration with the HoAG, contributing to accreditation, reaccreditation, minor and major course change documentation and managing rules for advanced standing and other program-specific rules and procedures;
  • Contributing to program development and innovation;
  • In consultation with the HoAG and other relevant staff coordinating academic assistance at enrolment sessions, orientation, progress review and other events as required;
  • Assisting and liaising with the Academic Advisor with complex course advice and improvements to course advice materials and communication as required;
  • Liaising with other program coordinators in the case of double degrees; and
  • Membership of Faculty Courses Committees and Progress Review Panels as appropriate.

Line management responsibility for program staff is not assigned to the Program Coordinator; it remains with the relevant Heads of Academic Group for all academic staff.
